Enabling the Distributed Family Tree

This is the official research blog for the Distributed Family Tree, an open network of genealogical data and metadata.  In a nutshell, the big idea is that we can combine all available genealogical information on the Internet into a single distributed network.  The foundation for this network is the substance of the Master's Thesis that I am currently working on.

New Domain, Wiki, Group, Project, and Buildmeister

You may have noticed that this blog has been moved to a new domain.  Let’s just say that the powers that be didn’t find the old domain all that appropriate.  I don’t mind.  I’d been hoping all along to change domains sooner or later, but I had a hard time coming up with a good name that wasn’t also already taken.

The project now has a homepage, a wiki, this blog, a Google group for general discussion, and a Google project (including issue tracker, downloads area, and source code repository; the latter two aren’t being used yet but will be soon).

And while we’re on the topic of changes, the project also now has a buildmeister, my awesome friend Ethan Garofolo!  He’ll be in charge of the automatic (and, until then, manual) build process, which will be running on one of his computers in Texas.  It’s really exciting to start turning this project into a group effort; hopefully things will get moving a lot more quickly.
