Enabling the Distributed Family Tree

This is the official research blog for the Distributed Family Tree, an open network of genealogical data and metadata.  In a nutshell, the big idea is that we can combine all available genealogical information on the Internet into a single distributed network.  The foundation for this network is the substance of the Master's Thesis that I am currently working on.

Coming Attractions

I’ve been invited to give a demo of Genesis at the Family History Technology Workshop next month.  The workshop will be held March 15 at, conveniently enough, Brigham Young University.  This means I must quickly get working on superficial features that demo well!  Like:

  • A rudimentary pedigree view
  • GEDCOM importing so that there will actually be data to show in said pedigree view
  • That Individual view I keep mentioning but never actually get around to programming

By this Monday I’ll have new downloads posted that aren’t significantly different from Genesis 0.0.0 except in that they can update themselves.  Then I’ll establish a work schedule for the above features and make a number of releases up until March 15th.
